The objective of this work is to estimate the effect of the thickness of the pieces to be welded on the variation of the molten zone’s and temperature fields’ depth. The study is made from equations developed for the prediction of thermal fields in welds and their subsequent graphic representation. The body models that describe the thermal transfer process and the respective heat sources used are studied. It is demonstrated that the models do not include the analysis of the effect produced by the variation of the thickness of the pieces to be welded. It is proposed and validated a model for the estimation of the temperatures’ field, which allows to transit from the specific conditions of heat conduction in a semi-infinite body to another one of finite thickness sheets. The behavior of the estimated isotherms is influenced by the modification of the heat in the piece when varying its thickness. Key words: Hardfacing, thermal model, thermal cycle, welding isotherms
