Priotelus temnurus (Cuban Trogon) is an endemic bird of Cuba distributed in primary and secondary forests of all island. During reproductive season of 2017 in Los Hondones, Ciénaga de Zapata, use and selection models of the nesting sites of this species were evaluated. An intensive search of nests was carried out and at each nesting site a group of variables that characterized cavity, substrate tree and surrounding vegetation were taken. The vegetation structure variables between the nesting sites and adjacent sites were characterized and compared as indicators of use and availability of reproductive microhabitat respectively. The abundance and density of the reproductively active population of P. temnurus was estimated. The characteristics of greatest significance in the nesting sites were those related to cavity and the substrate tree dimensions, obstruction of cavity and nest´s orientation. The highest values of abundance were in the months of the beginning of the reproductive period and the density of reproductively active adults was 0.05 individuals / ha. A selection pattern of the reproductive microhabitat was not found from the structure of the vegetation, which could indicate that P. temnurus acts as a generalist species at microhabitat level.
