Several definitions of speaking are quoted, as well as some definitions of communicative tasks are presented. The research is divided into three chapters that are devoted to the analysis of the current situation of the development of speaking skills in the first year of the training of Bachelors in English with a major in French, at Universidad Central “Marta Abreu” de Las Villas; a characterization of the sample is given, and at the end, it is presented a proposal of communicative tasks to help teachers and students in the teaching and learning process.
