Lograr una mejor calidad de vida de los gerontes es una premisa para alcanzar su desarrollo humano. Por tal razón, proponemos los siguientes objetivos: identificar los aspectos que tipifican la situación social de desarrollo en la tercera edad, examinar el efecto de la institucionalización de los adultos mayores e identificar la Situación Social de Desarrollo de una adulta mayor institucionalizada en un hogar de ancianos de la provincia de Villa Clara, Cuba. Se emplearon métodos en los niveles teórico y empírico, fundamentalmente la entrevista a profundidad y el análisis documental clásico. Se demostró que las redes de apoyo son relevantes para el bienestar psicológico de los ancianos.
