A system of actions derived from units 6, 7 and 8 to potentiate accuracy in pronunciation in English language in students from Group 9.3 in the secondary school “Capitán Roberto Rodriguez"

Resumen
El habla es una habilidad productiva que pertenece a la comunicación oral. El
objetivo de enseñar pronunciación es la fluidez oral. Muchas personas piensan
que esta habilidad es la habilidad más importante del lenguaje. Pudiera ser cierta
esta afirmación si el propósito es usar el idioma oralmente.
Para lograr una habilidad del habla con éxito, el profesor no solamente debe llevar
a los estudiantes de la comprensión de la función comunicativa a su producción
sino que además debe prestar atención a las características de esa actividad del
habla. La participación en clase debe ser balanceada, es deci r, todos los
estudiantes deben tener la oportunidad para hablar y debe prestársele atención a
aquellos estudiantes cuyas habilidades no están completamente desarrolladas. El
profesor debe usar ejercicios de fácil comprensión para los estudiantes y pedirles
un aceptable nivel de precisión.
Un aprendiz de una lengua extranjera debe tener conciencia de que aprender
gramática y vocabulario es importante pero de poca utilidad si él no es capaz de
pronunciar las palabras correctamente. Un hablante puede ser mejor entendido si
él comete errores gramaticales que si comete errores de pronunciación. Por ello,
alcanzar una buena pronunciación en la lengua extranjera debe ser uno de los
objetivos fundamentales del aprendiz. Una buena comunicación en inglés
depende de pronunciación apropiada. Los dialectos regionales pueden ser
diferentes pero una pronunciación clara es fundamental para que su mensaje sea
entendido.
Las ideas anteriores acerca del rol que juega la pronunciación en la comunicación
llevó al autor de este trabajo de diploma a sugerir un sistema de acciones para
potenciar precisión en la pronunciación del inglés en estudiantes del grupo 9.3 de
la secundaria básica “Capitán Roberto Rodríguez”.
Los estudiantes objetos de la investigación mejoraron su pronunciación durante el
período en que las acciones fueron desarrolladas. Sin embargo, los estudiantes
con más dificultades continuaron cometiendo errores, fundamentalmente en los
sonidos /z/, /v/, /ᶁᶁ/.
El sistema de acciones fue puesto en práctica en las unidades 6, 7, y 8. Hay
acciones dirigidas a potenciar pronunciación solamente y otras estuvieron
dirigidas a la habilidad del habla pero haciendo énfasis en sonidos específicos ó
en patrones de entonación.
Speaking is a productive skill that belongs to oral communication. The goal of teaching speaking is oral fluency. Most people think that it is the most important of the four language skills. It could be true if the purpose is to use the language orally. To have a successful speaking activity, teacher should not only bring the students from the understanding of the communicative function to its free production but he/she should also pay attention to the characteristics of a successful speaking activity. The participation in class should be even, that is, all the students should get a chance to speak, and attention should be given to those students whose abilities are not fully developed. The teacher should use exercises easily comprehensible to the students, and ask them an acceptable level of language accuracy. A foreign language learner should be aware of the fact that knowing grammar and vocabulary are important but useless if he is unable to pronounce the words correctly. A speaker could be more likely understood if he makes grammatical mistakes rather than if he makes mistakes in pronunciation. So achieving good pronunciation in the foreign language should be one of the learners’ main goals. Good communication in English depends on proper pronunciation. Regional dialects can differ but clear pronunciation is paramount to make your message understood. The above ideas about the role of pronunciation in communication led the author of this major paper to suggest a system of actions to potentiate accuracy in the English pronunciation in students from the secondary school “Capitán Roberto Rodríguez, group 9.3. The students objects of the investigation improved their pronunciation during the period the actions were carried out. However, the weak students continued making mistakes, mainly in the sounds /z/, /v/, /ᶁᶁ/. The system of actions were put into practice in units 6, 7 and 8. There are actions aimed at potentiating accuracy in pronunciation only and some actions were used for developing speaking ability but focusing on specific sounds or intonation pattern
