El discurso racista y discriminatorio hacia los esclavos y los negros y mulatos libres, en el periódico Correo de Trinidad durante el año 1844

Resumen
El racismo y la discriminación se encuentran en el centro de los debates y análisis a nivel mundial. En Cuba resulta de trascendental importancia comprender el porqué de la pervivencia de este tipo de ideología. Por tal motivo la presente investigación se ha dado la tarea de ver cómo se va construyendo el discurso racista desde la esclavitud, hecho que dio origen a este tipo de ideologías en la Isla y en la prensa colonial. Para ello se analiza una muestra del Correo de Trinidad, un periódico del interior, pero de un centro importante de la plantación esclavista. El estudio preliminar llevó a la selección del tema: el discurso racista y discriminatorio hacia esclavos y negros y mulatos libres del periódico Correo de Trinidad, durante el año 1844. Es por ello que se propuso como objetivo principal: caracterizar el discurso racista y discriminatorio hacia esclavos y negros y mulatos libres en el Correo de Trinidad, específicamente en los números correspondiente al año 1844. Los resultados obtenidos en el análisis de los textos permiten mostrar cuán deshumanizada y violenta llegó a ser la imagen que tenía la burguesía esclavista de los esclavos y de los negros y mulatos libres. A través de los textos se aprecia cómo desde aquella época se fijan modos de pensar y decir respecto al negro que influyeron en gran medida en que se creara un estigma sobre la “gente de color”.
Racism and discrimination are in the spotlight of global debate and analysis. In Cuba, it is of paramount importance to understand the whys and the wherefores of the continued existence of this kind of ideology. For that reason, the present investigation has been given the task of analyzing how the racist discourse is constructed from slavery, a fact that gave birth to this kind of ideology in the Island and in the colonial press. To this end, it is analyzed a sample of Correo de Trinidad, a newspaper from the interior of the country but one important center of the slave plantation. The preliminary study led to the selection of the theme: The racist and discriminatory discourse towards slaves, and free black and mulatto people of the newspaper Correo de Trinidad during the year 1844. Therefore, it is proposed the main objective: to characterize the racist and discriminatory discourse towards slaves, and free black and mulatto people in Correo de Trinidad specifically in the issues corresponding to the year 1844. The results obtained in the analysis of the texts have permitted to show how dehumanized and violent became the image that the slave bourgeoisie had on slaves, and on free black and mulatto people. Through the texts it is seen how from that time, ways of thinking and expressing on the black people were established that deeply influenced the creation of a stigma on "colored people".
