In this work a study was conducted to assess achieve some of the requirements of the NC-ISO 50001 in order to identify which are not fulfilled and propose solutions. For this initial step was performed as an energy characterization of Hotel Iberostar Trinidad, where weaknesses or deficiencies were detected in the irrational or inefficient use of energy. A general description of the entity, and a description and flowchart of systems and power equipment was performed. The consumption structure and the cost of energy carriers is determined. Units, areas, systems and equipment biggest consumers, also the role of direction and energy committee in achieving energy efficiency were determined. The energy performance of 2014 was characterized, analyzing trends. Improvement projects were proposed, analyzed existing and needed to raise energy efficiency measures were determined. The existing monitoring system has demonstrated its efficiency was analyzed. Among the criteria evaluated failures in some of them were identified and recommended actions to achieve compliance. With this work it was determined a number of factors that will serve as an initial step for the implementation of the International Standard for Management Systems Energy ISO 50001 adopted in Cuba as NC ISO 50001: 2011, which includes the planning, implementation, monitoring and review actions to improve the Energy Policy in the hotel.
