Esta investigación se propone: Identificar las creencias que justifican la violencia del hombre contra la mujer en la relación de pareja. Para ello se toma como muestra intencional, 24 mujeres quienes constituyen la población de mujeres que han solicitado ayuda a las organizaciones; “St. Lucia Crisis Centre” y “Women‟s Support Centre” de Santa Lucía, dada la existencia de violencia en su relación de pareja durante el período de tiempo de enero a mayo de 2011.
Para cumplir los objetivos se aplican: cuestionario,entrevista en profundidad ycomposición a la muestra seleccionada.
Al triangular la información, los resultados indican que los métodos empleados permiten identificar las creencias de las mujeres que justifican la violencia del hombre contra ellas en una relación de pareja, entre otras: los hombres tienen derecho a ser violentos porque: Tienen dominio sobre la mujer, son más violentos y fueron testigos de violencia contra sus madres cuando niños.
Se proponen conclusiones que reflejan coincidencia entre lo hallado en este estudio con lo planteado por otros autores sobre el tema. Recomendándose desarrollar investigaciones dirigidas a la orientación e intervención para modificar las creencias que tienen las mujeres que justifican la violencia del hombre contra ellas en relaciones de pareja.
The following investigation proposes to identify beliefs that sustain violence from men against women in relationships. In order to do so, a sample was intentionally selected and composed of 24 women, who form the population which had solicited help from the organizations; The Crisis Centre and The Women‟s Support Centre of Saint Lucia, given the existence of violence in their relationships during the period of January to May, 2011. To fulfill the objectives of this investigation, the following techniques were applied: a profound interview, a composition and a questionnaire to the selected sample. Upon the execution of triangulation of information, the results indicated that the methods applied allowed the identification of the beliefs that women have about violence from men against them in a relationship, amongst others; men have the right to be violent because they dominate women, they are more violent and were witnesses of violence against their mothers as young boys growing up. The conclusions made reflect a coincidence between the discoveries made by this study and by what was proposed by other authors about the topic. The recommendations made were aimed at the development of investigations which were directed towards the orientation and intervention of modifying the beliefs that women have, which sustain violence from men against them in relationships.
