Objetivo: Caracterizar psicométricamente la Motivation to Change Behaviour for Dementia Risk
Introduction: Knowing the motivational levels of people for lifestyle change is essential for the correct implementation of dementia prevention programs. However, in Cuba the existence of valid and reliable instruments that make it possible to measure the level of motivation in the population for behavior change to prevent dementia has not yet been recorded. Objective: To characterize the psychometric properties of the Motivation to Change Behavior for Dementia Risk Reduction Scale-Spanish version (MOCHAD-10-Sp) in a sample of the Cuban population. Methods: An instrumental study was conducted, from a quantitative paradigm. Sample was aleatory and probabilistic, it comprised 305 subjects. Exploratory Factor Analysis was employed to establish the factorial structure of MOCHAD-10-Sp. Reliability was determined by Cronbach’s Alpha. Motivation of the population to change behavior for dementia prevention was described. Results: The structure of the original instrument was maintained, explaining significant numbers of the explained variance (3.20 and 2.36) and a Cronbach’s coefficient Alpha of .74. In sample, 45.6% presents a middle level of motivation to change behavior for dementia risk reduction, while 26.9% has high levels of motivation and 27.5% a low level. Conclusions: The two-dimensional model of the MOCHAD-10-Sp was an optimal solution for the scale, presenting high levels of reliability. A middle level of motivation to change behavior for dementia risk reduction prevailed over the population.
