Área I: Contaminación ambiental y tecnologías limpias.
The visual analysis of data is an emerging and rapidly developing discipline at present, consisting of a set of methodological tools that allow setting the parameters to represent through graphical interfaces the results of some analytical reasoning, consequence of research. Through this instrument, the information obtained can advise about a problem and in turn, serves to study and discover the unexpected. The transport of contaminants is a problem and a topic of active research in disciplines related to the study of the environment. The Ministry of Science, Technology and Environment of Cuba pays special attention to this issue, including it for several years in the National Strategy for Science, Technology and Innovation as a priority area, namely, Area I: Environmental pollution and clean technologies. In this paper new methods for visual analysis of pollutant transport are proposed, from the integration of techniques, models and tools of the two areas: visual data analysis and analysis of pollutant transport. It is performed a study of the topological structure of fluids, represented by vector fields, through the properties of its main elements: critical points and curves that separate the fluid in areas of similar behavior. Through the integration of scientific visualization techniques into a hydrodynamic model to simulate flow, transport and biogeochemical processes in aquatic systems in one, two and three dimensions; has been developed a software tool that allows effectively study the topological structure and behavior of a 3D unsteady flow.
