The increase in the range of broadband services to mobile users has led to a logical increase in the consumption of energy by mobile devices, affecting the autonomy of the batteries and therefore the availability of the terminals. An effective solution for saving energy is to implement a power saving mode (Power Saving Mode, PSM). However, the real challenge is to sustain a satisfactory level of quality of experience (QoE, Quality of Experience) in voice over IP (VoIP) services while simultaneously saving energy. This project carries out an analysis of the performance of two PSM schemes: one that uses a mechanism with a mixture of short and long cycles, and another that uses a multi-cycle mechanism. Based on the analysis, this paper proposes a PSM mechanism that ensures an improvement in energy savings while maintaining the QoE levels in a permissible range, as well as taking into account the effect of burst losses for the perception of the quality. A communication channel is modeled to validate the effectiveness of the proposed mechanism and the results obtained certify the effectiveness of this, allowing savings of up to 50% compared to the other schemes while ensuring a desired level of QoE.
