The need for spaces that allow the full development of dance professionals, made it possible in the province of Villa Clara that the Provincial Culture Investment Entity requested the Project Entity EMPIFAR Villa Clara, Basic Unit of Projects, the preparation of a project in Conceptual Ideas to convert an emblematic building of the city of Santa Clara, the old Hospital "Ludgarda Morales de Machado" of Maternity and Childhood, into a Dance Academy. The present work addresses the issue of contemporary architectural rehabilitation, through the presentation of a proposed solution to the project of these Conceptual Ideas. It is developed in three chapters. The first of these offers a synthesis of the state of the art on the subject, expressing the concepts and criteria existing in the field of rehabilitation and showing both national and international examples of buildings that have been rehabilitated for use by dance companies and academies. In the second chapter, the project methodology used for the analysis of the building under study is presented and each of its aspects is developed, exposing the knowledge about its history, characterization and technical state, which allows the identification of its main values and its categorization. The exterior areas are also analysed and the projection task is presented, which, reconciled as a professional exercise of the project, traced the main lines of desire for the architectural design of the proposed recuperative intervention of the building. The third chapter sets out the zoning, volumetric and technical-constructive criteria taken into account in the project proposal for the recovery of the old Hospital, as well as some general criteria to be taken into account in the rehabilitation of the exterior areas. The zoning planimetric solution and the proposal for the project's conceptual ideas that will respond to the objectives of the remodelling for the existing insertion are also set out. The development of this project is of vital importance for the city and the building as such, firstly because it would help to stop the progressive deterioration that the building has suffered for several years, thus safeguarding the values of the building recognized as cultural heritage of the city, fulfilling the state policy of preserving our built heritage and thus leave a legacy for future generations. Secondly, the proposed use of the building helps to promote a comprehensive general culture in our population, which is a fundamental aspect of the current policy of the Cuban State, which promotes a love of the arts, specifically dance.
