In order to characterize the process of sustainable development in the light of the challenges, constraints and opportunities in the current global conditions facing the island state of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG), this dissertation presents the results of an exploratory study based on factual and theoretical information about the particular characteristics of the island State, and bases the need and importance of sustainable development. It is evident that there are very specific challenges and constraints that must be taken into account in an accurate manner in economic development policies and the existence of opportunities to be well exploited to march towards the goal of sustainability, including the availability of natural resources (albeit limited) environmental functions of which are tourist attractions, some degree of institutionalization of plans, programs and strategies relating to the environment and the membership of the Bolivarian Alternative for the Americas (ALBA) than as a qualitatively higher integration , will beneficially be inserted in the process of globalization that objectively influences one way or another in the process of development of third world countries.
