In this work a general characterization of the plastic factory "Battle of Santa Clara Unit" belonging to the EMI "Ernesto Che Guevara" and each area encompassing energy consumers larger systems was performed. It was determined that electrical energy is the biggest energy carrier of the entity. It was also demonstrated that the factory does not fulfill the requirements under the NC ISO 50001: 2011, necessary for implementation of the management system of energy and do not have a documented SGEs which would reduce rates of electricity consumption and fuel installation. In the factory there is no defined and approved energy policy. Measures are proposed in order to increase energy efficiency and improve compliance with the requirements for future implementation and certification of the standard.
