The present work presents the general ideas of a system developed for the teaching of the subject Operating Systems (OS). The difficulties to learn the subject were analyzed; this study justifies the existence of the new tool, which is mainly focused for the Computer Science students. The system consists of a set of concept maps that allow the navigation and interpretation of the term “conceptlink word-concept”. There are different informatics resources associated to the map concepts, for example, html pages, java Applets and multimedia, which expand the contents and allow to appreciate actions which are non-visible and internal to the OS, what facilitates its understanding. The theoretical aspects about the subject of study (OS) are also discussed, as comprehensive as possible, although not all these concepts are included in this first version of the application. The knowledge is structured in four concept maps, starting with the map “Operating Systems” as the main. This map offers a general vision of the global concepts of the subject, serving at the same time to access the three other maps ("Memory Management", "Processor Scheduling" and "File System"). The system was implemented using the CmapTools. For the access to the system the client-server technology was used. The server resides in the University of Granma (UDG) and the client part can access it from anywhere in the world, if an Internet connection is available.
