The present work contains the diagnosis and proposal of improvement of the in vitro propagation process of Tectona grandis L. [teak], a forest species which have been propagated in the Plant Propagation Lab of the Plant Biotechnology Institute placed in the Central University of “Las Villas”. This laboratory has implanted a propagation protocol for this species, well-known as conventional propagation method in semisolid medium, which uses culture media gelled with agar or Gelrite. In the investigation a diagnosis of the propagation process by means of the gathering of data through technical of interview with experts of the area was done. Data collected were analysis by statistical tools. The main deficiencies of the process were identified and in consequence it was considered a different action to eliminate the identified weaknesses and to improve the efficiency of the process. An intended action of improvement guided to the modification of the indicator of efficiency of the in vitro propagation process was done by means of the combination of the conventional propagation technique with a semi-automated system to allow increase the number of produced plants.
