At present, Jatropha gossypifolia L. is one of the plants that has increased in interest, manifested in the high amount of isolated and characterized metabolites, as well as pharmacological activities tested in different extracts through in vitro and in vivo studies. However, there are reports of oral toxicity of the species although dermal toxicity has not been studied. At the Central University Marta Abreu de las Villas, Mendoza and collaborators developed a dermal toxicity study of the hydroalcoholic extract of the leaves of Jatropha gossypifolia L. The objective of this work is to write a scientific article about the studies of dermal toxicity by repeated doses of the hydroalcoholic extract from the results previously obtained. For this, the Journal of Pharmacy & Pharmacognosy Research was selected and the Spanish language was chosen for its writing, following the rules established by the editor. The repeated dose dermal toxicity study of the hydroalcoholic extract included evaluation of body weight, clinical signs, hematological and biochemical parameters as well as histopathological analysis of organs and skin. The results described in the article show significant non-toxic effects in rats of the Sprague Dawley line, as there are no alterations in the clinical signs evaluated. No lesions were found attributable to the effect of the hydroalcoholic extract on the organs and skin. As a conclusion, it is suggested that the hydroalcoholic extract from the leaves of Jatropha gossypifolia L. is considered non-irritating and can be safely administered dermally. Key words: Jatropha gossypifolia L., dermal toxicity, subchronic repeated dose toxicity
