The management of health records in traditional health histories bears to several limitations in the clinical method, when they are used with administrative, educational, scientific or investigative purpose, etc. The design and implementation of a Hospital Information System for the Control of Health Records was proposed, to overcome some of these limitations and to speed up the management of the information associated to the patient’s health care, in the service lent by the University Hospital "Arnaldo Milián Castro" of Santa Clara. Then, an extensive research on the main elements from the secondary health care involved in the elaboration of the health records was carried out. A database design was obtained based on the requirements analysis of the hospital workflow and the information system was implemented as a Client-Server Web application, with free software and open source tools, based on the design pattern Model-View-Controller.
