Abstract
Housing has always been and still continues to be one of the world’s greatest issue. The increase in the population has led to the increase in today’s housing demands. In today’s world there are many people that can’t obtain a home, mainly due to economic reasons accompanied by the lack & major inadequacy of loans, both of which are current and forgoing problems that are constantly presented to the general population. Everyone desires and dream in having a home, somewhere that can be classified as their personal residential zone, a world like many others unique its design highly influenced by the geographical context as well as the customs, practices, constructive technology and traditions of the island, taking into account all of the economical factors that are required in order to successfully achieved the desired outcome. With a profound investigation on designing tendencies practiced in Latin America, later focusing principally on the architectural standards and methods practiced within the Caribbean mainly in St. Kitts. St. Kitts, also known as St. Christopher called is located in the northern part of the Leeward Island chain. Saint Kitts has 176, 12 km's of terrestrial surface. Basseterre, the biggest city of both islands, has eighteen thousand people, while Charlestown has an estimated population of 1.500. Both Islands are known and recognized tourism and mercantile centers. Saint Kitts and Nevis is a nation of both high and medium revenue. However, the country is vulnerable to foreign impacts, as well as natural disasters. The present documented project studies the tendencies, criteria, national and international techniques in the solution for housings of different standards, (High, medium and progressive homes) from architectonic and urban point of perspective. Some technological documents, catalogs, books and digital documents along with the regulations and constructive normalizations of this country are examined, also a profound study of the Cuban Standards, which are used as data base. By analyzing these documentations we would be able to formulate concrete ideas, both in the architectonic and urban design of this sector, St. Peters Parish, a district located almost 2500m from the center of Basseterre, the capital city of St. Kitts. Obtaining as proof outstanding homes, both better in their quality & resistance, produced by the utilization of traditional materials and technologies, as well as an intensified revision of official global financial indicators of the country.
