dc.description.abstractEl presente estudio se adentra en la narrativa de Augusto Monterroso con el fin de caracterizar el significado simbólico otorgado a los animales de sus fábulas, en comparación con los significados tradicionales de estos seres en la literatura. A partir del método bibliográfico-documental y la técnica bibliográfico-documental, así como el análisis de textos, se examina del libro del escritor guatemalteco La oveja negra y otras fábulas. Como referentes tradicionales se toman el Diccionario de los símbolos de Juan Eduardo Cirlot, el zodiaco chino en representación de la signicidad astral, además de otros textos en los que se emplean los animales que sobresalen como objeto de estudio: el mono y el león. Una vez concluida la investigación, se le puede atribuir el calificativo de renovación simbólica a la continua significación que atribuye Monterroso a sus animales, a través de la incorporación de nuevos valores y representaciones a la signicidad tradicional. De este modo, sus animales y significados apoyan la construcción de la identidad latinoamericanaen_US
dc.description.abstractThis article delves into the fabled world in order to characterize the symbolic meaning given by Augusto Monterroso to animals in their fables, in comparison with the traditional meanings of these beings in literature. From the bibliographic-documentary method and the bibliographic-documentary technique, as well as the analysis of texts, the Guatemalan writer La oveja negra y otras fábulas will be analyzed and as a traditional reference the Dictionary of the symbols of Juan Eduardo Cirlot, the chinese zodiac as a representation of astral significance, as well as other texts in which references and meanings of animals that stand out as an object of study are present: the monkey and the lion. Once the investigation is finished, the symbolic renewal can be attributed to the continuous significance that Monterroso attributes to his animals, meaning for the one that incorporates new values and representations into the traditional meaning. In this way, their animals and meanings support the construction of the Latin American identityen_US
