Relación de los gremios tróficos con los caracteres morfométricos en aves forestales de ecosistemas insulares de Cuba

Resumen
Varios de los rasgos morfométricos de las aves reflejan la diversificación de nichos
tróficos experimentada por este grupo zoológico durante el proceso evolutivo. La
clasificación de las aves en gremios tróficos se ha realizado en base a varios criterios,
aunque no se ha evaluado a partir de medidas corporales. Se evaluó la capacidad
predictora de varias dimensiones corporales de aves para su discriminación en
gremios tróficos. Se capturaron, con redes de niebla, las especies de aves presentes
en formaciones vegetales terrestres de cuatro cayos de Cuba. A cada ave se le midió
la longitud del ala, cola, tarso y pico, y el peso corporal. Posteriormente, dichas aves
se clasificaron en gremios tróficos. Se compararon las medias de las dimensiones
corporales relativas entre gremios y se evaluó su poder clasificatorio en gremios
tróficos mediante un Análisis Discriminante. Se encontraron diferencias significativas
(p<0,05) entre las dimensiones ponderadas de cada gremio, destacándose el
Insectívoro con mayor tendencia a la diferenciación. Existió una amplia superposición
entre los gremios a partir de las medidas corporales y elevados porcentajes de error
de clasificación, excepto para los insectívoros (%absolutas = 1,1; %relativas = 0). Esto
reflejó la insuficiente capacidad discriminatoria, para la mayoría de los gremios
tróficos, de las variables morfológicas absolutas y relativas en las especies de aves
que los constituyen
Several morphometric traits of birds reflect the trophic niche diversification experienced by this zoological group during the evolutionary process. Classification of birds into trophic guilds has been carried out based on several criteria, but no body measures have been evaluated. The predictive capacity of some body measures of birds for trophic niche discrimination was analyzed. The birds from the terrestrial plant communities of four keys of Cuba were capture using mist nests. For each bird, the length of the wing, tail, tarsus, and bill, and the body weight were measured. Then, the birds were classified into feeding guilds. The body measures were compared among guilds, and its power for classification of the feeding guilds was assessed by a Discriminant Analysis. There were significant differences among the weighted dimensions of each guild (p<0.05), being the Insectivorous the one the highest tendency toward differentiation. It was found a broad overlap among the guilds based on body measures, and high percentages of classification errors, except for the Insectivorous (%absolutes = 1.1; %relatives = 0). This reflected the poor discriminatory capacity, for most of the feeding guilds, of the absolute and relative morphological variables of birds that forms these guilds
