Resumen
This paper presents a system of activities for the improvement of students´
pronunciation within the teaching-learning process of English in 9thgrade. A
theoretical and methodological background on the topic of pronunciation of
some sounds is provided including the most important concepts related to our
area of research.
Several methods were used to assess students’ strengths and weaknesses
regarding the pronunciation of some sounds in English. The results revealed
that students had some difficulties in the pronunciation of some final sounds
and some sounds that do not exist in Spanish. Accordingly, a system of
activities was designed to meet their needs and to help them improve their
pronunciation in English. The activities were mainly directed for the controlled
practice stage since the main objective of the proposal is directed to accuracy.
